The 2009 Catena Malbec presents a dark, violet color with deep black tones. This microclimate blend of four unique vineyard sites offers intense aromas with a soft generous texture and concentrated flavors. Angelica vineyard lends ripe plum and chocolate flavors with a very soft, supple mouthfeel. La Consulta vineyard brings a core of black currant and cassis, with excellent structure and length. La Piramide vineyard offers blackberry fruit with a slight earthy tone and notes of spicy black pepper. Finally, the Adrianna vineyard lends exceptional concentration with explosive floral aromatics. Together they give birth to a complex blend of aromas and flavors - a wine with excellent concentration, balance and freshness.

Catena Malbec 2009
In 1902, Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant, planted his first vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina. The winery has remained under family control ever since – now, in the third generation. Owned today by Nicolas Catena Zapata and his daughter Laura, Bodega Catena Zapata is known as the pioneer of fine wine from Argentina.

Nicolas Catena is recognized as the vintner who revolutionized wine quality in Argentina. A trained economist, Nicolas began this revolution in the early 1980s and continues to constantly challenge himself and his team to make wines that can stand among the best of the world. His measured approach to viticulture has taken its place in wine history as the pioneer of high altitude viticulture.

The Catena wines, first launched in 1992, set a new standard for quality in South America. The wines immediately proved the quality potential of Argentina and garnered the first outstanding reviews for Argentine wines from the media worldwide. After more than 15 years, the wines of Catena continue to lead the way in Argentine viticulture and winemaking. Nicolas believes the terroir of Mendoza’s high altitude wine country (3,000 – 5,000 feet above sea level) is unique to the world. The reality of this belief is expressed in every bottle of Catena wine crafted. Bodega Catena Zapata is one of the few longstanding family wine companies in Argentina that still remains in Argentine hands. The family and the winery employees take great pride in carrying on the tradition that began over a century ago.
