Oregon

In just 40 years Oregon has evolved into a world-class wine growing region. There is a mentality among many Oregon winemakers of nonintervention; their goal is to allow the vineyard, grape and vintage to produce the wine and allow it to show its own character and terroir. In the Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir is king. These wines fall stylistically somewhere between the pristine elegance of Burgundy and the rich opulence of California, generally demonstrating balanced acidity combined with powerful dark fruit flavors.

Oregon has several different growing regions within the state's borders which are well-suited to the cultivation of grapes; additional regions straddle the border between Oregon and the states of Washington and Idaho. Winemaking dates back to pioneer times in the 1840s, with commercial production beginning in the 1960s. Beyond Pinot Noir, many producers make Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and other varietal wines.

MadWine brings you an unparalleled selection of Oregon wines, from large, well-established wineries and also from small, boutique garagiste producers. We invite you to experience the range and variety that you can find among the wines that they create.
