Australia

The open, good-natured boisterousness of the Aussies is often reflected in their wines. On this big continent, nearly every major grape variety grows well. From the world-class dry Riesling of the Clare Valley to the robust Shiraz (Syrah) of Barossa and McLaren Vale, they can grow everything there – including Tempranillo and Zinfandel!
Winemaking in Australia goes back over 200 years. Since there are no native grapes, producers have planted the finest European grape varieties across the Australian continent. Successive generations of vine growers and winemakers have brought Australia to the forefront of world wine. Let MadWine show you the best this great country has to offer.
In Western Australia, by Perth and Margaret River, they craft delicious Cabernet, Chardonnay and Shiraz from vines cooled by breezes off of the Indian Ocean. The cool climes of Victoria, the Yarra Valley and Tasmania produce fine Pinots, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc, and elegant, restrained Shiraz. Rutherglen produces some of the world’s finest dessert wines, called “stickies” by the locals.
