The concept and style of Cepparello was developed by Paolo De Marchi over a period beginning on the mid 1970’s. The wine is named after a small stream, Borro Cepparello, originating in the highest point of the vineyards on the ISOLE e OLENA estate. The label is an original nineteenth century design used by the De Marchi family winery, Proprietà Sperino, in Northern Piemonte.
Cepparello can best be described as a full-bodied, well balanced wine of an intense purple color. It is rich in tannin, yet is rendered soft and round on the palate by its youthful fruitiness and depth of complexity. It is a wine which is crafted to develop with extended ageing yet it may be drunk young. It is a suitable for hearty foods such as roasts, red meat or game.
